Quarterly Reports for In-Progress Studies
One of the unique strengths of the Dulles Research Institute is its multidisciplinary approach to research, accomplished largely by the work of its Senor Research Fellows. These Senior Fellows represent multiple fields of study, as well as multiple perspectives within individual fields. A study that is largely criminological in its method and focus, for example, benefits from the questions, insights, and methods of psychologists, sociologists, experts in organizational leadership, and theologians, with the result being a richer, fuller study.
Although all original research projects have their own principal investigator and research team, and with due concern for the freedom of inquiry that is needed, DRI studies remain always the work of the entire Dulles Research Institute, not just an individual scholar or team. In an effort to safeguard the quality and focus of all DRI research, then, the Committee of Senior Research Fellows plays an oversight role in all studies. At no time, however, will the Research Fellows ever try to influence the outcomes of any study or to censor legitimate findings.
In order to maintain its oversight role and the multidisciplinary character of all DRI research, therefore, the Committee of Senior Research Fellows expects that Principal Investigators will submit quarterly reports on their research while their studies are in progress.
About This Form
If you are a Principal Investigator on a research project being conducted under the auspices of the Dulles Research Institute, you are expected to complete and submit this Quarterly Progress Report at the end of each quarter, from the time your project is approved until your final report is submitted and approved. Installment payments on research funding will be conditioned on receipt of these quarterly reports and their review by the Committee of Senior Research Fellows. Here’s what you need to know about submitting your report.
SCHEDULE
Quarterly reports must be submitted within two weeks (14 calendar days) of the conclusion of each quarter, according to the following schedule:
Q1: April 14 (for the quarter ending March 31)
Q2: July 14 (for the quarter ending June 30)
Q3: October 14 (for the quarter ending September 30)
Q4: January 14 (for the quarter ending December 31)
NOTE: In the event that the due date for the report falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or bank holiday, the report will be due on the next business day.
Responsible Party
It is acceptable for the Principal Investigator to delegate to a member of the research team the responsibility for completing and submitting this report, and a place has been provided on the report’s first page for indicating the name of the person submitting the report. That said, the Principal Investigator remains responsible for timely submission of the report, and for the accuracy of all information contained in it. In conducting follow up, the Committee will communicate with the Principal Investigator.
follow-up meeting
The Committee of Senior Research Fellows meets quarterly, several weeks after the quarterly report due dates. It is expected that the Principal Investigator will attend this meeting, via video conference, in order to discuss the project, answer questions, and receive input. With advance notice, the Principal Investigator is welcome to include other members of the research team in these meetings.
Completing the Form
The form must be completed and submitted all at once. It is not possible to save your answers and return at a later time to finish the report. If you navigate away from this page without submitting the report, your answers will be lost. Before you begin filling out the form, though, you are free to page through it so you can see what answers you will need before you get started. You may even compose your answers in a Word document and then copy and paste them to the report form, if you prefer. Advancing through the pages of the form and returning to earlier pages will not erase your answers, but navigating away from this webpage will make your answers irretrievable.
Notice the instruction boxes. As you make your way through the report form, mouse over each question and an instruction box for responding to that question will appear to the right of the page. Some of these instructions are important for knowing the specific information that is required, so be sure not to overlook them.
Confirmation. Upon submission, a message will appear on the screen so that the person submitting the report will know that the submission was successful. In addition, the Principal Investigator will receive an email notification that the report has been sent, and this email will include a copy of the report, which the PI should retain for his/her records.
