APPOINTMENT

The team of Senior Research Fellows is chartered as a committee of the DRI,under Article 5 of the DRI Bylaws. Under the terms of the charter, membership in the Committee is by invitation from the Board of Directors, upon recommendation of the existing Senior Research Fellows. To be considered for appointment, an individual should ordinarily, at minimum, possess a terminal degree in a field of study relevant to the DRI’s mission, and should have proven excellence as a scholar in that field. Senior Research Fellows serve for a term of three years (renewable).

Senior Research Fellows

The core of the Dulles Research Institute is its team of Senior Research Fellows. Representing diverse fields—from the social sciences to organizational development and leadership, to history, law, and public policy, to theology and religious studies—the DRI's Senior Fellows contribute to the design of the Institute's original research and have access to the Institute's proprietary data. They contribute to the work of the Institute both by their participation in its common research and by their own individual studies and publications. The DRI's Senior Fellows chair the Institute's various working groups and they review grant applications, making recommendations to the Board of Directors on each year's grant awards.

Responsibilities

1. The principal responsibility of the Senior Research Fellows is to design, approve, conduct, and oversee original research projects in line with the DRI’s mission. By majority vote, the Committee of Senior Research Fellows advises the Board of Directors on the adoption of research projects and on publication of findings.

2. The Senior Research Fellows review all applications for external research grants, and by majority vote recommend to the Board of Directors which grants should be awarded.

3. Individual Senior Research Fellows serve as chairpersons of the Institute’s various working groups, made up of the DRI’s dues-paying members.

4. The individual Senior Research Fellows, as recognized scholars in their respective fields, have access to an anonymized version of the DRI’s proprietary data, subject to IRB and Board approval of their projects. They may make use of those data to conduct their own analyses and studies.
