Msgr. Thomas G. Guarino, STD
Fr. Thomas G. Guarino has been professor of systematic theology at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey since 1984. He is the author of five books, including Revelation and Truth, Foundations of Systematic Theology, and Vattimo and Theology. His 2014 volume, Vincent of Lérins and Development of Christian Doctrine, was awarded the Paradosis Center Book Prize for Theology.
Over the course of his career, Fr. Guarino has published scores of articles in theological and philosophical journals in North America and Europe. For over two decades, he has been a member of the bilateral ecumenical initiative, Evangelicals and Catholics Together (ECT), serving as its co-chairman since 2009. Fr. Guarino recently co-edited a volume of the nine statements issued by ECT, entitled Evangelicals and Catholics Together at Twenty: Vital Statements on Contested Topics, published by Brazos Press in 2015.
In 2002, Fr. Guarino was named a fellow of the Center of Theological Inquiry in Princeton, N.J. where he has served two terms as an in-residence member. He has been awarded numerous research grants by the Association of Theological Schools and was four times named “researcher of the year” by Seton Hall University. In 2018, Fr. Guarino was named “theological advisor” to Opus Bono Sacerdotii, a position previously held by Cardinal Avery Dulles and Fr. Richard John Neuhaus.
Fr. Guarino’s latest book, The Disputed Teachings of Vatican II: Continuity and Reversal in Catholic Doctrine, will be published by Eerdmans in October, 2018.
